I only just recently learned of Zentangles and I bought the kit. It’s the making of art that I don’t have to think about. It’s soooo relaxing. The blog Open Seed Arts blog belongs to a Zentangle pro. In it, the owner, Carole Ohl writes on 21 August:
The more I become immersed in the process, the more I realize that it’s much more than metaphor for me: The ACT of creating a Zentangle IS life.
Zentangles is just making black patterns on a small piece of paper but my “not good enough” voices still try to butt in while I’m drawing. But, because it’s such a small and simple piece, it seems easier to hush them up and keep going. My tangles are nowhere close to being as good as those of the pros but they’re only little ink drawings on paper and not oil on canvas so it’s a lot easier to just keep going and be satisfied with the end result. As Carole Ohl writes:
The act of doing a tangle: As I pick up my pen I am aware that this is an ACT of trust. Using the pen means whatever marks I make cannot be erased. They can be acted on and embellished, but I can only move forward (or stop completely, if I let my left brain get the best of me).
Go away, left brain! Read more about Zentangles here.
